Privacy Policy
Effective May 30, 2026
Placette ("Placette," "we," or "us") is an app that turns recipes into clear, step-by-step cooking plans using AI. This policy explains what information the app handles, where it goes, and the choices you have. We've kept it short and plain.
Information you provide
The main information Placette handles is recipe content: text you paste, the contents of recipe web pages you import by link, and text taken from photos or cookbook pages you scan. The app also handles the on-demand requests you make while cooking — for ingredient or equipment substitutions, nutrition estimates, and weight conversions.
You do not create an account to use Placette, and we do not ask for your name, email, or other personal details to use the app.
How your recipes are processed
Placette's core feature is powered by AI. To turn a recipe into a plan — and to answer on-demand requests like substitutions, nutrition estimates, and weight conversions — the app sends the relevant recipe text over the internet to Anthropic, the maker of the Claude AI models, which processes it and returns the result.
When you use Placette, your recipe content is sent to our own cloud service — a Cloudflare worker — which securely attaches our Anthropic credentials and forwards the request to Anthropic to generate your plan, then returns the result to your device. This service exists only to keep our API key off your device; it does not store or log your recipe content, use it to build a profile of you, or sell it.
Under Anthropic's commercial terms, the content Placette sends is not used to train Anthropic's models, and Anthropic deletes it within 30 days of processing, except where it must retain it longer to comply with the law or enforce its usage policies. This processing may take place in the United States or other countries where Anthropic operates. You can read more in Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
Processed on your device
Some things never leave your phone. When you import a recipe from a photo or by scanning a cookbook page, the text is recognized on your device using Apple's on-device text recognition — the photo itself is not uploaded; only the extracted text is sent for processing. Voice commands in Prep and Cook mode are recognized on your device using Apple's speech recognition, so your voice is not sent to us.
What's stored, and where
Your saved recipes and cooking sessions are stored locally on your device. We do not keep a copy on a server. Removing a recipe in the app deletes it, and deleting the app removes its data from your device.
What we don't do
- We don't require an account, and we don't ask for your name or email to use the app.
- We don't show ads or use third-party advertising or tracking.
- We don't use third-party analytics to build a profile of you.
- We don't sell your personal information.
Children's privacy
Placette is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Security
Recipe content is sent over encrypted connections, and we take reasonable steps to protect the information the app handles. No method of transmission or storage is ever completely secure, but we work to keep your data safe.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the date at the top of this page.
